Apple butter is a made from apple as its name implies, it requires long slow cook and only needs a few ingredients to make it. It can be used for pie filling, it can be used for pastries, use as a spread on bread. It uses are numerous and they are delicious. You can use two or three types of apple to make it or just one type. In this recipe, I used Granny Smith and McIntosh apples. You can use any type you like.
It is important to sterilize the jar to store it. Here’s How To Sterilize a Canning Jar
- 3 Pound Apples (peeled, core and cut)
- 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar (use more or less)
- 1/4 Cup Granulated Sugar
- 1 Teaspoon vanilla Extract or paste
- 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
-
Peel the apple, core, and cut up.
-
Pour in a slow cooker, add all the ingredients, and cook on slow for about 8hours. If your slow cooker is not that powerful it might take longer.
-
When it's all cook down the color will look brown and the apples will be soft. Puree the apples with an immersion blender and if you can still see traces of water after the puree continue to cook until it thickens.
-
Store in an airtight container and refrigerate. It can stay in the refrigerator for a couple of weeks, you can also freeze it.
-
Enjoy your apple butter with ice cream (just warm it slightly and pour over the (ice cream), bread
Note: You can cook it overnight. You can double the recipe and adjust the sugar to your liking.
