This homemade BBQ sauce is a blend of tomato, vinegar, brown sugar, spices, salt, and pepper all combined and simmer for less than 10 minutes. The taste is everything you can beat it, it’s better than store-bought. I didn’t use onion for this homemade BBQ sauce but if you want you can about a handful of onion saute it before adding the rest of the ingredients after the simmering is done you an immersion blender to puree the onion.
If you like your BBQ sauce sweet, add more honey or brown sugar, if you want it spicy add more hot sauce, if you want extra smokiness you add about 2 teaspoons of smoke liquid or double the smoked paprika. You can use this sauce for the grilling of your proteins.
You might want to try;
- 1 Cup Ketchup
- 1/4 cup Water
- 3 Tablespoons Honey
- 2 Tablespoons Brown sugar (dark or light)

- 1 Teaspoon Distilled white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
- 2 Teaspoons Smoked paprika
- 1 Teaspoon Garlic and onion powder (each)
- 1 Teaspoon Hot sauce (optional)
- 1/2 Teaspoon Salt and pepper
-
Gather all the ingredients and measure them into a saucepan.
-
Place the pan over medium-low heat and combine.
-
Simmer on low heat for about 8-10 minutes until the sauce thickened.
-
You will notice the thickness when you stir the sauce won't spread over.
-
Use immediately or pour into an airtight container allow to cool down completely, cover and store in the refrigerator to up to a week or freeze for up to 3 months.
-
I usually use it immediately and store the leftover. This was used for turkey.
