It is all about yam today, loaded peppered yam. This recipe will make you look at yam in another light. If you don’t like yam, try this peppered yam you’d love it, trust me! Don’t just trust me, try it and find out yourself…lol.
I love yam and included some of my favorite things to eat in this recipe. I added turkey breast, plantains, shrimps. You can substitute chicken breast for turkey breast. I’ll link another yam recipe to this post in case you need help with how to fry yam. I have other yam recipes you might want to check, check the links below for more.

Egg Coated Fried Yam (Yamarita)
- 5 cups cubed raw yam
- 1 cup Cubed turkey breast
- Shrimp (shelled and deveined)
- 1 big plantain (cubed and fry)
- 1 Big red bell pepper
- 1 Roma tomato
- 1 Habanero (rodo)
- I big onion (divided)
- Oil for frying
- Green onion (optional)
- Seasoning bouillon powder
- Salt to taste
-
Peel yam, cubed, set aside while you prepare other ingredients.
-
Blend cleaned half onion, habanero, tomato, red bell pepper and set aside.
-
Heat oil (about ¼ cup or less) in a big pan or wok over medium heat and sauté the rest of the remaining onion (chopped). Add the blended pepper and cook until it reduces.
-
In another pan or fryer heat oil to 350 degrees, peel the plantain, cubed/diced up, and fry until golden brown, drain on the plate lined with paper towels, and set aside. I don’t add salt to frying plantains, you can add it if you desire.
-
While the pepper is cooking, fry peeled, cleaned cubed yam, and fry them I'll link another post to this recipe if you need help with yam frying.
-
Check pepper mixture and add turkey (if you like to bake or fry you can do that), season with seasoning bouillon and salt, stir and continue to cook for about 3- 5mins depending on the size of your cubed turkey.
-
Add shrimps and combine.
-
Add fried plantains and stir together.
-
In this next step, I fried yam and add directly to the mixture while they're cooking. You can fry and set aside if you're using a single burner/stove.
-
Add fried yam, add a little bit of water, check your seasoning and re-adjust if necessary, stir and allow the fried yam to absorb the pepper mixture.
-
Add chopped green onions if you’re using them.
-
Serve and enjoy!
