Plantain Tostones

Just in time for Easter, these plantain tostones are a good appetizer for your family or guests. Plantain tostones are very easy to make and if you love plantains you will love these plantains tostones. They’re the same except for the plantain tostones are pressed with a tostonera or a flat object to flatten them.

I served these plantain tostones with Easy Guacamole Recipe and  Easy Honey Shrimp to take it to another level which makes the flavors more in-depth, and if you’re looking for something simple and a little bit different this is for you.

You don’t have to serve the plantain tostones this way but it is a good way to enjoy it. If you don’t have a tostonera just use a clean cup or any clean flat object to flatten it.

I used ripe plantains but if you love green plantains you can also use it. This serves as a good snack also.

  2. Peel, cut the plantains (round) into about 1 inch. Repeat the process if you’re making more than one.

  3. Heat oil in a skillet or frying pan over medium heat to about 350 degrees F. Add the plantain and fry on both sides until it’s lightly brown.

  4. Remove and drain in a plate lined with paper towels, repeat the process until you exhaust the plantains. Use a flat object like a cup, a wooden spoon or if you have a tostonera place each plantain and press to flatten it. If you’re using a flat object like a cup place parchment paper over the plantain then press to flatten then return to the hot oil and fry until golden brown then remove the plantains and drain the second time.

  5. Season with onion and garlic powder. If you wish to add salt you can use salt too but I don’t use salt in my ripe plantains.

  6. Before the second frying, you can add the garlic and onion powders into a small bowl of water then dip each flattens plantains and the fry. I don’t really recommend this because water and hot oil don’t mix it dangerous. Therefore, if you’re using this water be careful.

  7. Serve and enjoy.
