The Belgian waffle is made with yeast instead of the normal American waffle style, it is prepared in a waffle maker/iron that has deeper pockets and it’s very obvious in that respect if you’ve never tried this waffle before you need to make it because it’s delicious. I have some waffle recipes on the blog if you would like to check them out. This waffle was served the berry compote recipe coming up next, pineapple syrup check How To Make Pineapple Syrup is also good with it. Let’s get started!
Parmesan Waffle With Ground Beef
- 2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
- 2 Cups Buttermilk
- 3 Eggs (room temperature)
- 4 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
- ¼ Cup Butter (salted or unsalted)
- 2 1/4 Teaspoons Yeast
- 1 Teaspoon Salt (if you’re using unsalted butter)
- 1-2 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
-
Proof the yeast: In a bowl add warm milk (about 110-115 degrees F), add yeast and sprinkle sugar. Set aside until it foams up.
-
In small bowls or cups, separate the egg yolks and whites and set aside.
-
Whisk the egg whites to stiff peak
-
In another bowl, melt the butter and allow to cool down.
-
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, and salt (if you’re using unsalted butter).
-
In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks, add buttermilk, and vanilla extract.
-
Without over mixing the ingredients, whisk the wet and dry ingredients together; the flour mixture, yeast, and the buttermilk mixture together. You can mix the yeast and the butter mixture together before adding to the dry ingredients
-
Gently fold in the egg whites and combine. Set aside while you preheat the waffle iron maker.
-
After the waffle maker is hot spray with cooking spray/oil/butter.
-
Add the batter (don’t overfill) and cook according to the waffle maker recommended time.
-
Serve immediately with your favorite toppings and/syrup or keep warm in the oven.
-
Enjoy!
This looks so yummy… I’m trying it out this weekend.
Please do and I will be expecting your feedback. Thanks Bukky.
