Gather all the ingredients and measure them into a saucepan.
Place the pan over medium-low heat and combine.
Simmer on low heat for about 8-10 minutes until the sauce thickened.
You will notice the thickness when you stir the sauce won't spread over.
Use immediately or pour into an airtight container allow to cool down completely, cover and store in the refrigerator to up to a week or freeze for up to 3 months.
I usually use it immediately and store the leftover. This was used for turkey.
I didn't use onion for this homemade BBQ sauce but if you want you can about a handful of onion saute it before adding the rest of the ingredients after the simmering is done you an immersion blender to puree the onion.
