Akara bread toast is a very basic toast making, the process is similar to the normal french toast except for the ingredients. Making akara bread toast requires that you have akara batter prepared and if you have beans powder this is could be substituted for the batter.
Using beans powder might be tricky so when mixing make sure the batter is not too thin or too thick. I also recommend that you use thick slices of bread so your toasts are intact when you done cooking. Thin slices of bread might fall apart if the bread is soaked for too long. If you need a recipe on how to make akara batter please check one of the links below.
You might want to try;
- Bread slices
- 1 cup blended akara batter
- 1 raw egg
- 1 Green onion ( chopped)
- 1 Teaspoon dried onion (optional)
- 1 Rodo/habanero (optional) chopped
- Olive oil (or your favorite)
- Seasoning powder (optional)
- Salt to taste
Get your bread ready, chop the green onion, rodo (if you're using), and set aside.
In a medium-size bowl, whisk the akara batter, egg, green onion, pepper, dried onion, seasoning powder (if you're using), and salt to taste.
Gently add water to thin out the mixture. Make sure the batter is not too thin.
Soak a slice bread on both sides for about a minute or thereabout. I used thick bread slices so the bread doesn't disintegrate in the process. If you're using thin bread slices make sure you're fast about it. You can scoop some of the green onion over the bread if you desire.
Heat about a couple of oil in a skillet or pan over medium-high heat. Place the soaked bread and cook until the color changes or fully cooked
Flip the bread and cook on the other side.
Once it is cooked, transfer to a plate and continue to cook the rest of the bread.
You can enjoy the akara toast as it is.
If you desire, drizzle some sweet and chili sauce. Enjoy!
