Citrus drumstick chicken is a simple dinner meal inspiration that can be prepared ahead, and the chicken can be prepared in an oven or grilled, it is tender, juicy and the citrus flavor is everything. It is a delicious chicken recipe everyone would like. You can pair the chicken with any of your favorite side.
Chicken thigh is also a good substitute for the drumstick. I juiced the orange fruits myself but you can as well use a store-bought orange juice if that’s what you have.
Let’s get started.
- 8 Pieces Drumsticks (about 2 lbs)
- ½ Cup Orange juice
- ¼ Cup Lemon Juice
- ¼ Cup Lime Juice
- 1 Tablespoon Olive oil (or your choice)
- 1 Tablespoon Onion powder
- 1 Tablespoon Ginger powder
- 2 Gloves Garlic (smashed)
- 1 Inch Ginger (smashed)
- Seasoning powder/cube (optional)
- Salt and pepper
-
Clean the chicken and pat dry.
Scrub the fruits and rinse, squeeze out and combine lemon, lime, orange juices together.
Tip: To get maximum juice from your fruits; orange, lemon, and lime gently roll it on a hard worktop and use your palm to roll up and down for a few seconds.
-
Season the chicken with the rest of the seasonings; garlic, ginger powders, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
-
You can use a zip-lock or a clean plastic bag, add the chicken and pout the juices over the chicken.
-
Smash the ginger and garlic, cut the “skins of the fruits and add to the chicken.
Combine and let the chicken marinate for several hours over overnight in the refrigerator.
-
Take the chicken out of the refrigerator and bring back to room temperature, while doing that preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
-
Line a baking sheet with a foil (for easy cleaning) and arrange the chickens on it. Pour the half of the marinade and bake for about 30 minutes. If you think the chickens are getting brown too quickly cover with a sheet of foil.
-
Turn the chicken and baste with the remaining marinade and continue to bake for additional 10 to 15 minutes or until the chickens are fully cooked. Turn the oven to a broil at final 2 minutes.
-
Serve with your favorite side dish.
