Homemade butter is a very easy recipe to make, I know some people might think otherwise until they read the instruction below. To be honest I don’t usually make butter because sometimes the heavy cream price is higher than the butter price, so it doesn’t make sense. But whenever I have a bargain on the heavy whipping cream I quickly grab it…lol. To make butter is easy as I stated before, you can make it in a jar but know that if you’re using a jar that’s going to be your work out for that day, there’ no need to go to the gym again…lol. To make it in a jar all you need to do is shake, shake, shake until the liquid (buttermilk) separates from the butter.
If you have a stainless steel arm like me you can use a blender or a food processor the result is the same with no stress. When you’re done you can mix some herbs, and salt (if you wish) with your butter and spread on a slice of bread. You can use the buttermilk in baking, waffle or Fluffy Buttermilk Pancake
- Whipping Heavy Cream
- Jar with a lid or a Food processor or a blender
-
Open a heavy whipping cream
-
In a clean jar, fill half way through with the whipping cream.
-
If you're using a blender or food processor, pour the cream into the food processor jar and pulse.
-
Or in a blender cup
-
Continue until you have the consistency below, number 8 and 9.
-
Place the lid and close tightly, and continue to shake.
-
The cream is changing about to start curdling.
-
Continue to shake and you will notice the cream has started to thickens, you can open to check what going on.
-
Close the jar and continue to shake, then you might notice there’s liquid in the jar, when you have the liquid don’t panic! The liquid is buttermilk, and you can use it in baking.
-
Continue to shake until you have butter and the liquid (buttermilk) is separated.
-
There you have it.
-
Pour the buttermilk into a bowl, and scoop out the butter.
-
Rinse the butter with cold water (add the water with the rest of the buttermilk)
-
If you want your butter salted, add salt and mix.
-
You can add herbs to your butter.
-
Add the butter to a sterilized jar and refrigerate.
-
Smear some butter over homemade bread and enjoy!
